CASE STUDY METHODS (Case Study) in RESEARCH

One type of research is a descriptive qualitative research method or approach with case studies (Case Study). This study focuses intensively on a particular object as a case study. Case study data can be obtained from all parties concerned, in other words the data in this study were collected from various sources (Nawawi, 2003). As a case study of the data collected from various sources and the results of this study apply only to cases under investigation. Further Arikunto (1986) suggested that the case study method as a kind of descriptive approach, is a research intensive, detailed and thorough examination of an organism (individual), institutions or certain symptoms with a narrow area or subject.
Research case study or field study (field study) is intended for intensive study on the background of the problem situation and the position of an event that is currently underway, as well as environmental interactions of certain social unit that is what it is (given). Subjects can be individuals, groups, institutions or communities. Research case study is an in-depth study of a particular social unit and the results of these studies provide a broad overview and deep understanding of a particular social unit. Subject under study is relatively limited, but the variables studied and the focus is very broad dimensions (Danim, 2002).
The case study will be less when the depth is only focused on a particular phase or one particular aspect prior to obtaining an overview of the case. Instead of case studies would lose meaning if only intended merely to obtain a general picture, but without finding something or some special aspects that need to be studied intensively and in depth. In addition, a good case study should be carried out directly in the real life cases. Nevertheless, the case study data can be obtained not only from the cases studied, but also can be obtained from all parties are aware and familiar with the case properly. In other words, the data in a case study can be obtained from various sources, but is limited in these cases will be examined (Nawawi, 2003).
Another sense, it could mean a case study in research methods or strategies, it could also mean the results of a study of a case tertentu.Dalam context of this paper, the author focuses on the first sense, namely as a method of research. The case study is an approach to the study, explain, or interpret a case in a natural context without any external intervention. In essence this study seeks to highlight a decision or set of decisions, why the decision was taken, how to apply and whether the results. (Salim, 2001).
In short that distinguishes the case study method to other qualitative research methods is the depth of its analysis of specific cases (both specific events and phenomena). Usually triangulation approach is also used to test the validity of the data and find the real objective truth. This method is very appropriate to analyze certain events specified in one place and time specified as well.
